Whorled Milkweed

Fourleaf Milkweed, Whorled milkweed
Whorled Milkweed (Asclepias quadrifolia)

Milkweeds are heavily promoted because they help feed Monarch Butterflies. The Prairie Garden Trust is home to several milkweeds and they are just starting to flower. The first to bloom is Whorled Milkweed. It is named from the “whorl” of 4 leaves that come out along the stem.

I found this plant flowering this morning along the rocky trail to The Point.
