Ovenbird in a Redbud

Seiurus aurocapillaOvenbird

On our way to a picnic lunch today I heard an Ovenbird calling. I stopped to get a picture but the bird refused to come out of the deep shadows in a cedar thicket. I kept waiting and hoping and finally for an instant it jumped into a flowering redbud tree.

I was so distracted that I didn’t pay attention to the thunder off to the West. Lorna grabbed me to run home before we got drenched. After we were safely inside it started to hail.

Ovenbirds are one of the Warblers that nest here at the Prairie Garden Trust.
