White-crowned Sparrow

Zonotrichia leucophrys

White-crowned Sparrow (Immature)

Even though it started to rain I decided to stay out to see if I could identify this sparrow. The soft whistling song seemed familiar but I was baffled.

Without this photograph I don’t think I would have ever figured it out. It’s a White-crowned Sparrow without a white crown; it’s an immature!

In the background you can see the muted fall colors.
