Eastern Red Cedar

Juniperus virginiana
Eastern Red Cedar, (Juniperus virginiana)

The only common evergreen tree at the PGT is Cedar. Even though it is a very attractive tree we have killed thousands of them over the last decade. The problem is that they invade glades and abandoned fields; they are ubiquitous along fence lines. In parts of the property they were starting to take over so we have had to thin them out like weeds in a garden. In the future cedars will be kept under control by our burns.
