Fall Prairie Color

Indian Grass (Sorghastrum nutans) and Big Bluestem (Andropogon gerardii)

Fall color is not just trees and shrubs; the grasses can also be wonderful. Here you can see some of the tall grasses in the Dogleg Prairie just south of the PGT Visitor Center. Get close and position yourself so that you face into the sun so the leaves are backlit.

I’m not seeing a way to email anyone on this site. I’m writing a simple article for our nonprofit Environmental Educator newsletter, which is sent to everyone in the county. I think your October 14, 2011 Fall Prairie Color photograph is beautiful, and I’m wondering if I can use it with your permission.
